“What Is An Audiophile? … And Quick Suggestion For Them ” video
What does audiophile really mean?
I will begin this article by the definition of the word “audiophile”. Since it can’t be found in the Cambridge Dictionary, I will use what is on Wikipedia:
“An audiophile is a person enthusiastic about high-fidelity sound reproduction.
Audiophile values may be applied at all stages of music reproduction: the initial audio recording, the production process, and the playback, which is usually in a home setting.
A key goal of audiophiles is to capture the experience of a live musical performance in a room with good acoustics and reproduce it at home. It is widely agreed that this is very difficult and that even the best-regarded recording and playback systems rarely, if ever, achieve it.”
Audiophile meaning in with my words ️
I few words, an audiophile is someone that is really excited for hearing music in the best possible way. His goal is to generate an experience that sets him/her in front of their favorite artist, to feel like there were no speakers in his home, but actual guitars, drums, bass guitars, synthesizers and trumpets. Of course, that this is going to be a difficult, if not impossible, thing to achieve.
Do I consider myself as an Audiophile ?
Yes, I consider myself as a true audiophile way before having listened to the actual word. I remember a long time ago when my Walkman’s headphones stopped working. I went to the store and I saw a really cool Aiwa headphones that caught my attention right away. They weren’t on my budget but I decided to sacrifice some time without portable music in order to save some bucks and finally being able to purchase them.
I want to set clear that these headphones didn’t catch my attention for the high-quality audio they delivered, or their conformability. None of that! I wanted them only because they look cool and different from all the others (I was 11 years old).
Nevertheless, I found out when the precious time on purchasing them finally arrived that they were (obviously) way better than the ones that originally came with my walkman in terms of sound quality. Oh my God! they sounded beautiful! I remember that I was able to hear parts of the songs that I wasn’t able before. That opened my mind to an all-new world.
While it was damn true that this Aiwa’s weren’t the best sounding headphones (or even an audiophile’s desired ones really) they were that piece of gadget that made me understand that sounds are complex. I knew at that time that I had to achieve the best sounding system possible, I had to perceive the songs in the way the artists intended to. I had to do it because listening to music was my favorite time of the day, period.
My journey as an Audiophile
With that said, I began my journey as an audiophile (and not knowing that that was my actual adjective). As you might suppose, an 11-year-old kid has very limited resources for having a proper audiophile equipment (and in my case, the knowledge either), but whenever I had some money, I decided to invest it on audio. Whenever it was a surround sound system, hi-fi headphones or audio sources like DVDs and CDs. I was really digging into it.
In the present, the story is way different. Firstly, with the internet, I can get more opinions on what is the best equipment for a specific genre of music, or what are the best tips of advice for keeping your turntable sounding as good as it should. Really you can get nowadays whatever answer you want on the web if you know how to search for it.
Secondly, I have a job now, so I can spend more money on the things that I want and I love. I have now a good turntable, a decent disc player, a decent amplifier and OK speakers. I am (and I should) very proud of my sound system. It is my tool for escaping all the dark moments of the day.
Don’t get crazy
I mentioned before that with the help of internet everything can be answered. That is a good thing if you use it in the right way. Recently I’ve used it in the wrong way. I was looking for the best sounding system excessively. What is the best amplifier I can afford? What is the best turntable? And what about the best cartridge?… And the list goes on and on. I was going crazy with all the info on the web and I was beginning to get frustrated because my system wasn’t perfect.
One thing is clear in this business, a hi-fi sounding system is something that is a never, NEVER ending thing. Nobody can argue that. You won’t have a perfect one, and that is the beauty in this field. You will do have, in fact, a personal and unique sounding system. Even if your components are exactly the same as another audiophile, the tuning of the system, the acoustic of the room, the alignment of your stylus… Every single thing matters and affects the resulting sound.
Don’t get crazy investigating what will make your equipment sounding better because the answer is… an infinite amount of thing will. Instead of that, get the best components that your bank account will allow it, and just… enjoy it. This hobby is all about releasing stress and appreciate the art of music. And believe me, it is worth it.
