Best of 2024: Better Lovers – Highly Irresponsible

2024 was a good year. Many cool new albums: You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To by Knocked Loose, From Zero by Linkin Park, Hit Me Hard And Soft by Billie Eilish, Post Human: NeX GEn by Bring Me The Horizon… I know, it was a very cool year. But I would like to point my attention to what for me it was the coolest release: Highly Irresponsible, the first LP from the superband Better Lovers.

Better Lovers is not just another supergroup. Whenever a new band is formed by ex-members of a well-known group, I find their music to be boring most of the time. It is not the case with the new band formed by past members of Every Time I Die and The Dillinger Escape Plan. I do not think that they have reinvented the wheel here though. But, they have presented what is a very good, and fun to listen to pack

One of my most favorite moment on the record is when the song Future Myopia chills down with the bass notes.

I have to spend some time talking about the presentation of the album. I think this is a very good example of what bands should do in order to the consumers to purchase music on physical format. Why I should buy some album if it does not deliver to me anything more than when listening to it on streaming services? The cover of it is printed in some way that the colors seems to be hand-painted. If you ever have the chance to see it in person, you will know what I mean. The vinyl disc comes in a plastic+paper sleeve, which is perfect for protection and keeping the static out from the record. When I listen to this album, the experience is enhanced if I have the cover on my hands. Also, I like the fact that they kept the same style as they did with their first EP, it kinda makes it to be their own style.

This album is fully packed of headbanging moments, but the one that for me is the best one, is this one, which can be found in the song Superman Died Paralyzed (0:50)

You will find more flavor from Every Time I Die in this record. But this part of the last song, Love As An Act Of Rebellion (0:36), reminded me so much of The Dillinger Escape Plan, a band that I am very fan of. As I said before, I do not think this is a revolutionary album, where they invented a new genre, but it is an album that is very fun and interesting to listen to. I would really like to see if I can catch Better Lovers someday on a live concert.

Comment the cool thing about his singing. he screams the same word over. Explain that their intention was not no be to revolutionary in terms of music
